Position Description

Applied Materials has an exciting opportunity for an experienced attorney to join our newly-formed Litigation Center of Excellence (COE) in India which supports our world class Global Litigation & Investigations Team.  This team is responsible for safeguarding Applied Materials’ innovations and reputation by leveraging cutting edge technology and techniques to investigate and take action, while relentlessly focusing on prevention and risk mitigation for the company. 

As part of the Litigation COE, you will play an integral role in supporting active litigation and investigation matters, including performing initial fact development and issue assessments, leading eDiscovery and document review efforts, conducting interviews and preparing summary memoranda, and preparing matter reports and executive presentations.  

This position will be based out of Applied Materials’ office in Bengaluru, India.    

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Support investigation and litigation matters, including initial fact development and issue assessments, leading eDiscovery and document review efforts, conducting interviews and preparing summary memoranda, and preparing matter reports and executive presentations

  • Meet or exceed KPI, productivity, and service level standards set for the Litigation COE

  • Contribute to the continued development and improvement of operating playbooks, intake procedures, and workflow management and other operating procedures to maximize the efficiency and productivity of the Litigation COE

Desired Qualifications

  • LL.B. / LL.M. degree from a reputed and BCI-accredited law institute in India, or other international equivalent

  • 8+ years of Intellectual Property (IP) litigation support experience at a top tier law firm, professional consulting or managed services firm, and/or in-house at a multi-national company

  • Experience in conducting internal investigations, fact development, witness interviews, and early case assessments

  • Expert in eDiscovery and document review best practices and hands-on experience with major review platforms (i.e. Relativity, OpenText, Disco, etc.)

  • Understanding of computer and digital forensics

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented, flexible, and impeccable integrity

  • Collaborative by nature and able to build strong partnerships

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, global environment and ability to manage and prioritize a diverse and complex workload

  • Self-motivated, driven, and ability to work independently and within a team to achieve desired objectives

Bonus Qualifications

  • Substantive trial, arbitration, and/or adversarial administrative proceeding experience, particularly dealing with IP disputes  

  • Previous in-house experience (preferably at a technology company with global operations)

  • Fluency in multiple languages
